CHAI ENERGY
Chai Energy was a Los Angeles–based startup that developed technology to help homeowners monitor and reduce their electricity use. Its mobile app connects to a home’s smart meter and a small gateway device, providing real-time energy data and personalized insights. By identifying inefficient appliances, recommending optimal usage times, and highlighting rebate opportunities, Chai enables users to cut energy costs by 10–20%. The platform also supported utilities’ demand-response and efficiency programs. By turning complex energy data into clear, actionable guidance, Chai Energy positioned itself at the intersection of clean technology, consumer engagement, and the growing Internet of Things movement.

This is an animated promo I made when Chai Energy was in its initial product development phase, but the video helped to develop brand awareness and attract initial funding to the organization.

We went a step further and shot a live-action spot for Chai Energy. Chai’s gateway device (which linked to a home’s smart meter) was available to use on-camera but the app was still being developed, so I animated that, as well. The look of the Chai Energy app had developed in a different direction compared to the version of the app that appeared in the first animated video.
